A new ChangeWave survey found that 48 percent of those looking to buy a new smartphone in the next 90 days plan on getting an iPhone. I'm not surprised - I feel the same now.
In the study by the research network, the 4163 consumers especially in the North American smartphone market were asked to reveal their preferences of mobile device. With nearly half of respondents saying that we will have iPhones, 32 percent say they favor the Android operating system. Only 4 percent said they want a BlackBerry device OS.
Okay, so this last point made me blush. Suddenly, I feel like a kid with a partner school seniors and sneakers.
At this point, I have a BlackBerry Curve. We do what we need to do - Show my email, I check Foursquare gives me directions when I'm lost ... But it lacks a few things: speed and a "cool" factor.
I have an iPod that plays my favorite songs - perfect for my morning walk to work, but would not it be great if I take less equipment in the bag on a daily basis? Not to mention, it would be great to have the "what" applications and games on hand that the iPhone can offer. (So do not be so far back in time.)
And now, with the introduction of Apple icloud service this fall, 29 percent of respondents who are currently owners of Apple products, said they are more likely to buy Apple products. And 13 percent of the owners of non-Apple products (including me) said they are also more likely to buy an Apple product because of the icloud.
"The results could be a leading indicator of future reports. Shipping worldwide phone Apple came in second in May, IDC [International Data Corporation] reported, but the company plans Android phone would be the beginning most popular operating system in the second half of 2011. In July, ComScore also reported that Android is mobile in the United States most popular operating system, "according to PC Magazine." It was Apple in the top of a related survey by ChangeWave found that 70 percent of the people who actually bought the phone said iOS who were "very satisfied" with their purchase, compared to 50 percent for Android, 27 percent for Windows Phone, and 26 percent of RIM. "
After much thought (and I guess a little peer pressure - thank you very much, ChangeWave survey and my "cool" friends with iPhones that I envy), I am thinking of buying the first iPhone in September.

Apple's iPhone is the leading buyer preference getter for the next 90 days, beating Google's Android platform, RIM Blackberry and Microsoft Windows Phone 7.
Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system may be the U.S. market leader, but customers are increasingly giving Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone a vote of confidence -- at least in theory.
Some 46 percent of 4.163 customers surveyed in June said they plan to purchase an iPhone from AT&T (NYSE:T) or Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZW) over the next 90 days, compared to 32 percent of respondents who said they would go with Android, according to mobile research firm ChangeWave.
The researcher said Apple iOS and Android gained 2 and 1 points, respectively, of buyer preference from its last market tracker in March. ChangeWave also said that 89 percent of the respondents hailed from the U.S., with the remaining 11 percent weighing in from outside the U.S.
Moreover, ChangeWave learned that 29 percent of Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod touch owners and 11 percent of non-Apple gadget owners said they would be more likely to purchase Apple devices in the future thanks to Apple's iCloud service. iCloud is a Web-based file storage service that aims to allow users to access their software from any Apple device.
"This initial look at the impact of Apple's new iCloud service shows it enhancing existing customer loyalty," wrote said ChangeWave Research Director Paul Carton. "But the survey also provides highly encouraging signs that iCloud will generate additional customer demand for other Apple products, not only from current Apple product owners but from a substantial numbers of non-owners as well."
The rise in pro-Apple sentiment in the face of 550,000 daily Android handset and tablet activations worldwide is not a new theme, thanks in large part to roughly two quarters of of Verizon iPhone sales in the books.
Nielsen said late last month that while Android still paced the U.S. smartphone market with 38 percent market share through May its growth of recent acquirers flattened over the last few months.
Android accounted for 27 percent of the new smartphone acquirers from March through May, according to Nielsen. Apple saw its recent acquirer share grow 7 percent, from 10 percent from December to February to 17 percent from March to May.
Meanwhile mobile analytics firm Flurry said new Android project starts dropped from 36 percent in the first quarter to 28 percent in the second quarter. Flurry said the Verizon iPhone 4 and iPad 2 helped lure developer support from the Android platform to Apple's iOS.
Another reason for the recent, strong Apple sentiment is the hype of the alleged iPhone 5 coming this September. iPhone sentiment tends to strengthen as the fever pitch of product rumors increases.
If it seems like a two-horse race at the top between Android and iPhone, how are other players faring? ChangeWave said buyer demand for Research in Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry OS handsets is down to 4 percent, a drop from 5 percent at last count.
ChangeWave said that after benefiting tremendously in the years Verizon subscribers were barred from the iPhone market, Motorola lost 4 points of market share "at least partially attributable to the Verizon iPhone release that occurred earlier this year," Carton said.
Meanwhile, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone 7 didn't even register as a blip on ChangeWave's customer radar.

HTC Corp. (2498), the second largest smartphone maker Asia, was accused of infringing Apple Inc. (AAPL) in a patent case that could end U.S. imports the telephones of the Taiwanese company and its new tablet computer Flyer.
HTC says Apple is infringing five patents related to software architecture and user interfaces in portable electronics, hardware for touch screens and motion sensors, according to a complaint filed July 8 with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington. The complaint is the second Apple has filed against Taoyuan, Taiwan-based HTC.
Apple has been using the trade commission, which has the power to block the products of the U.S. market, to pursue the manufacturers of mobile phones running Google Inc. (GOOG) 's Android operating system and compete with the iPhone. By filing the complaint against HTC, and filed a July 5 against Samsung Electronics Co., Apple is extending the battle to the tablet computers that challenge the market position of the iPad.
"HTC is appalled that Apple has turned to the jurisdiction of the courts rather than the market," said Grace Lei, HTC's general counsel. "HTC is vehemently denying all allegations of past and present Apple against it, and will continue to protect and defend its intellectual property, as it has done this year."
Shares fall
HTC shares lost 5.9 percent to trade at NT $ 925 from 12:30 pm in Taipei, turned to its lowest close since February 11 after falling to the limit of 6.9 percent daily. The stock has added 2 percent this year compared with a fall of 5.2 percent in the benchmark TAIEX. Apple lost 1.6 percent to $ 354 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
In March, HTC launched the Flyer, the first tablet in the U.S. to compete with Apple's iPhone and Samsung Galaxy Tab. The booklet has a 7 inch screen and uses Android, while the second tablet HTC called EVO 4G Vista provides faster connections to Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) 's fourth-generation network.

The complaint is directed to both the phone and the Samsung Galaxy Galaxy tablet computer.
Android is the most popular mobile device operating system in the U.S. , Which represents 38 percent of the market in the three months ended in May, according to Reston, Virginia, researcher ComScore Inc. Apple IOS, which is used in the IPAD and the iPhone, comprising 27 percent of market.
Benefits Beat Expectations
HTC reported July 6 that sales and net profit exceeded analysts' expectations for the second quarter ending June 30, after launching models with faster download and better shows. Both HTC and Apple more than doubled the income of mobile phones in the March quarter last year as the race to offer its products in more markets worldwide.
Seeking to expand its patent portfolio, HTC, said in April it paid $ 75 million for patents for wireless ADC Telecommunications, Inc. The battle over the “App store” won't be settled in recent times as Microsoft has filed their second objectionable plea in the court and have hired a linguist, Dr. Ronald Butters, to go for a head-to-head with Apple's own hired linguist, Robert A. Leonard. The main conflict is over the phrase “app store” as apple wants to make it a trademark. According to their linguist app store is a proper noun and qualifies for being given as trademark status. But Microsoft's linguist is conflicting on the fact that “app store” is too generic to be trademarked.
Microsoft's counsel is stressing that Apple and its competitor’s stores as a group or genus and when are looking for the store it’s just not apple's it’s been called as 'app stores'.
Microsoft's linguist stated that “app store” is just having a common naming paradigm which is being used in American English as for buying clothes at a “clothes store” or it can be anything. Apple has been saying hypocrites to Microsoft as they are objecting it’s too generic to be trademarked. Microsoft has asked for the dismissal of the application by summary judgement in January and Apple has been trying to trademark “App Store” since 2008 the time they introduced iTunes-based App store for mobile.
